Dawn of the Jedi

Posted by jedi58 at 03:41

At this years New York Comic-con, Dark Horse Comics have announced a new series is 2012 by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema which introduces readers to a time before lightsabers when the Force had only just been discovered.

Here's your first look at the Star Wars of 25,000 years ago-before there were lightsabers, when the ties to the Force were new, and before the Jedi spread out into the galaxy. It began with the mysterious pyramid ships-the Tho Yor-scattered to the eight corners of the galaxy, and ended with the establishment of an Order that would change the universe forever.

On the planet Tython, in the center of the galaxy, an order of warrior monks strives to maintain peace and to balance the mysterious power known as the Force. But a stranger is coming-one who will destroy both peace and balance, and open the galaxy to exploration and conquest. This is where it all begins!

Personally I can't wait for the series to start with issue #0 next year.

Star Wars Omnibus: Quinlan Vos - Jedi in Darkness

Omnibus - Quinlan Vos

It looks like the next Star Wars Omnibus to be released (after the 2nd Marvel comics one) will be titled "Quinlan Vos - Jedi in Darkness" and will collect Republic issues 19 - 26 and 32 - 45.

From his first appearance as a mind--wiped amnesiac to his triumphant passage to the rank of Jedi Master, few Jedi had more brushes with the powers of the dark side and the evil of the underworld than Quinlan Vos. This volume includes over 120 pages of story that have never been collected, plus the introduction of Jedi Aayla Secura--who made the jump from the pages of the comics to appearances in the films Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

This 504 page omnibus is scheduled for release on December 24th 2010.

Legacy - War series announced

Legacy - War Issue 1 cover

Set long after the death of Luke Skywalker and co. the Legacy series has proven to be an incredibly popular one - however as we all know it's coming to an end with issue 50. The series may be over, but it's not going to be the end for the Legacy-era stories.

MTV is pleased to exclusively announce that the great work done by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema in developing these characters will continue in the six-issue miniseries "Star Wars: Legacy—War."

In this new story Darth Krayt returns "from the dead" to try and the bring the galaxy back under his control, sacrificing anyone (friend or foe) to get what he wants.  His new vision for the galaxy is shaped by the events that have changed him and from the sounds of it him "blurring the lines between good and evil" suggests they are going in a similar direction as they did with Darth Caedus. They've not guaranteed who will survive by the end of the mini-series but the success of this will determine whether there are any future visits to the Legacy era.

The new series goes on sale 15th December 2010 and is written by John Ostrander with lines by Jan Duursema.

"Star Wars Insider" Goes Digital

Posted by jedi58 at 10:53

Originally in the UK we had "Star Wars Magazine" and the US had their own magazine, but a couple of years ago the two merged to become Star Wars Insider - a global source for Star Wars news in print (albeit with information out of date by a couple of months).

From a galaxy far, far away and straight into your home, Star Wars Insider is now available to read online! The official magazine for all things Star Wars is part of a library of more than 50,000 magazines available on "the world's largest digital newsstand" --

The online version requires a subscription (which is less than the print version) in order to view it, but their is a preview page where you can sample what it's like before you buy. Zinio is a reader which is being used by several magazine publishers so the reader itself is free for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, iPhone / iPod Touch, and iPad. I found the desktop version of the software to be clumsy, but on touch devices like the iPad it works far better. A subscription to Star Wars Insider for Zinio costs £24.77 instead of the normal £35.39 for the print version.
